Could Chris Carter win Te Atatu as an independent MP?

As someone who visits his electorate frequently on tertiary education business and as a member of his electorate for 12 years it appears as though the people of Te Atatu of a high opinion of their local MP.

Keep in mind that Chris Carter’s personal majority in 2008 was 5000 votes while Labour lost the party vote by about 12 votes. Chris Carter could easily win in Te Atatu should he decide to stand.

Labour – and New Zealand are in need of personal integrity and independent political leadership. Someone willing to call an unelectable leader an unelectable leader. (Edited from spade to spade to deflect racism accusations) Chris Carter is our man.

Perhaps, however, the real question we should be asking is: could Chris Carter win Te Atatu if he were to stand as a candidate for another party?

He might call a spade a spade (racist) but what would he call a bundle of sticks or twigs, esp when bound together and used as fuel?

Are you suggesting only a man can do the job? Sexist.

  3. No. But Chris Carter happens to be a man.

I am most certainly no friend of Chris Carter or the Labour Party, but the attempts by Mullard, Gough and Little to use the mental illness card is utterly disgraceful. Indeed, they should all be ashamed of themselves.

Even if Chris Carter was suffering from depression or any other mental illness, and I have no reason to think that he is, even if these ‘leaders’ of the Labour Party knew that he was suffering it would be appalling; and if he is, they’ve just demonstrated that they are unfit to govern this country.

Gough I am surprised at, but Mullard has always lived in the gutter both in his personal life and in politics, so it’s quite fitting, but as a future leader of the Labour Party, Little needs to seriously question his own involvement in the denigration of Carter and the insult poured by Labour on anyone who is suffering mental illness in New Zealand.

I don’t think he will win as an independent because people are backing off from supporting him now, which I think is unfortunate. Perhaps he should start his own party. I’d join him.

I’d certainly have some insights on how to transform the welfare and taxation systems, and I would attempt to bring back free tertiary education :)
